Anum's Review

The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time by Mark Haddon
Review by Anum Minhas
This is a unique story about a young teenager, who despite having a disability solves the murder of his neighbours' dog with the help of his passion for Maths and patterns.

The book is a murder mystery. It is peculiar in the sense that it is not an ordinary book where the chapters and page numbers are written in order. Instead it is written in even and odd numbers due to the narration given by Christopher Boone – the main character who has Aspergers Syndrome.

Suddenly, in the midst of the book, you'll find yourself solving Math calculations, reading metaphors or even Latin. The main character is fifteen years old and loathes anything yellow, brown and even being touched. Christopher had never even ventured to the end of the road by himself, but that was before the dog's murder.

The book is sad in places because the character's emotions are different and while reading, you find out that there will be some things that we understand and he does not. This is not my favourite book, but I would recommend it, just to experience the life of an autistic child.

It seems like a very interesting book. It has a very different and an unusual story.
