Here's another date for your calendar: the world's going to end (again) on May 21st

LOL, freaky how just before I saw this post, I updated my facebook status about how I think this is rubbish. It's actually pathetic how people nowadays have nothing better to do than just make up deceptive news. Attention seekers!

Well, this is a topic that I frequently discuss with my family and friends. Its interesting to see how their different views vary. Some completely believe, some dont, some are unsure about their decision.

I speak for myself when I say this is all nonsense, and this is due to many reasons:
1. religious aspects
2. my sane logic and beliefs
3. i believe there's no need to predict such a day. It will eventually come, we're all aware of that, but it will come unexpectedly

I believe it's our fear and trepidation of 'the unknown'. Because we do not know what to expect, whether we believe that God controls it or not, we fear it. That is why we as a planet have put so much money into our weapons and science. We want to research and uncover as much as possible so we can protect ourselves against any future dangers that may come from outer space or a disease epidemic.
Space travel and satellites are physical evidence of our curiousity and our desire for knowledge.
The end of the world is one of the biggest mysteries we have ever encountered, so to make up for this gaping abyss in our knowledge we try our best to predict thee answer, resulting in a whole load of false predictions and alarm for no reason.
The world will end... someday; but it will be unexpected and unforeseeable.

I here of these predictions all the time and watch in my little corner while many people especially as edline mentioned people who are unsure and confused about if there is a god consume themselves with fear over what the should do and whether they should believe it while the so called pastors preeaching fill up their pockets on never ending donations 'even though the world is supposedly ending'.

Maybe they actually whole their word when they say its for a good cause and maybe they don't but i find that hard to believe when evaluating their teachings and find such fallacies. It's really shameful on my as well as others behalf when many people specifically non christians believe in these sayings and with the lack of fulfillment call us hypocrites and blasphemy our teacxhings.
yet that isn't what this is all about so let me get to the point. worrying about the end of the world is pointless because as edeline mentioned no one knows when it will happen but many live on its belief. so all i can simply say is live everyday as if it were your last because it just might be.

There are many individuals out there who are obsessed with end of the world and each have their own reasons.

For some, it may be the desire to scare others and gain attention. But on a larger scale, i agree with what edeline said about humans being petrified of the unknown. We are in fact extremely curious species and are constantly looking for answers. Its human nature to be haunted with what we do not know. And when the world will end, is a perhaps a question we will never be able to answer. So i guess, that must drive most people mad.

Personally, I believe that with the threats of nuclear war and global warming, we will one day end the world ourselves.

When we say 'The world' what do we mean? Do we mean humanity, or do we mean the planet. Because if we mean the planet, then we have nothing to worry about- the planet is just fine - the people are in trouble - but the planet will be just fine.

Because, as George Carlin says in his YouTube rant, "The planet has been through a lot worse than us. Been through all kinds of things worse than us. Been through earthquakes, volcanoes, plate tectonics, continental drift, solar flares, sun spots, magnetic storms, the magnetic reversal of the poles... hundreds of thousands of years of bombardment by comets and asteroids and meteors, worlwide floods, tidal waves, worldwide fires, erosion, cosmic rays, recurring ice ages... And we think some plastic bags, and some aluminum cans are going to make a difference? The planet...the planet isn’t going anywhere. WE ARE!"

Being a creature where selflessness isn't one of our most flaunting traits, I strongly reckon by the end of world,we mean the end of us. I don't think we would be concerned with anything else when our lives are on the line.

The whole concept of death and endings have daunted and intimidated man from the dawn of time,a piece of idea that is too arduous to digest.

Albeit death is inevitable, maybe through these delusive predictions, man can prepare himself for the sooty eternity of nothingness.

Even though it is most hurtful to admit this, the planet will be more than fine without us.

On reviewing this, I guess when I say the world I mean the planet's effect on the people, because I do believe that the planet will be fine after the melting of the ice caps, while we on the other hand are doomed.

I think it is a very sly way of controlling people and their thoughts, lets face it apart from Bhutan, which country wants their people to be happy.

Its an idea that sets fear in superstitious people.

People believe the idea because generally people listen to other people with a white coat and Dr. as their title.

Another reason which may impractical is that people hate their lives and wish they were free from this world. We say it ourselves:

Humans are the cruelest creatures on earth.

or

The world is a dark place.

In my opinion end of the world really comes related to religion and scientific wise . People are afraid of the end of the world because it basically means everything will vanish, all will be destroyed. Being scared of end of the world is same as being scared of death.

We humans weren't made to think that death is something normal, and there is no problem about it. Scientist are making progress everyday, ages back scientist didn't have cure for diseases that killed a lot of people, but now there is. The fact that one day you will die from it, even the scientist if they don't make a research about it and come with a cure, makes them do this progress and development in health.

But when comes to religion, we all know the world WILL come to an end, an end that scientist cannot prevent or make a cure about it. Depending on the person's believes the end of the world could be tomorrow or years after, it's something that cannot be prevented.

Therefore, what makes people obsessed with this topic is their fear to die, we all want to live and discovers new things, experience new stuff. But death will come, and it scares us.
