Of course I've experienced trolling, not targeting emotions or anything but just generally trying to cause a disruption. Not only is this annoying, but it's completely unproductive. Especially when someone on the internet asks for help from a forum but a troll makes a comment and the forum forgets to address the initial problem.
This may be annoying but its not as devastating as some of the examples given in the article. Those events are shocking and the people responsible for such things should be punished. Unfortunately, due to their cowardly nature, they have a veil of 'fake' accounts and profiles.
On a forum "Moderators" to patrol the forums looking for such trolls and users can report others so action can be taken. But honestly making another account is so easy that I doubt it has any affect at all and the person is back online trolling in minutes.
Also in the article was a quote relating to how it is possible for the Internet Service Provider to track down culprits. I doubt this has ever happened, it doesn't sound like a telecom company to use valuable resources to track down trolls and shut off their internet connections.
Argh attention seekers. They just sit behind their monitor screens expressing their blank views, starting pointless arguments, and just spamming. I have experienced LOADS of trolls on Youtube and other popular sites. I dont think there is much you can do about them. They are just 'keyboard warriors' are are cowards in real life.
Being a frequent visitor of blogging sites and forums, I can say I've had a fair share of experiences with trolls.
In fact, I may be guilty of 'trolling', especially when I'm bored or I find it extremely amusing when people get so overtly aggressive over the internet. The trolling I usually do is that of a sensible one though, not the kind that go on and on about how everyone are faggots, etc. When I do troll, I'm more of a Sniper Troll, IRL troll or a Devils Advocate Troll.
Please do not kill me after reading that. hahaha.
Well, the best way is to combat trolls is to simply ignore them, or "do not feed" them. Don't take them seriously. Do NOT give them any attention whatsoever, for this is what they want. They want you to lose your calm, and to get you all 'pissy'.
If you seek to "own" them, I'm afraid it's quite a hard thing to do, since Trolls are a bit hard to shut up. They will go at any means to destroy you. But if you do "own" them, well, kudos to you. You have now succeeded in making them crawl back into their little holes, humiliated by the fact that they couldn't come up with a clever comeback.
Trolls, though they may be annoying, can be quite interesting, since they can be great manipulators of human moods and reactions.
I didn't spend much time on the computer until this blog, wiki spaces, Edmodo, Animoto and Phoebus became part of my daily English lessons. That would mean I haven't experienced much of it.
I feel sorry for them. It is either "I have nothing else to do" or "Let me do something anti-social, maybe someone will know I am alive".
They have nothing in their lives. They probably don't have school, homework, caring families and other privileges that most of us have. It is quite unfortunate.
I agree that you can't feed the troll since that's exactly what they want but oh, how satisfying it is to call them out on their masculine-gendered cow feces...
I have seen some disgusting, awful trolls, being a veteran of what I like to call the underground internet. But reading that article? I feel like throwing up. It makes me physically ill to see how low people can get. Trolling may be fun and games to some people and, sad and pathetic as it is, might be their joy in life but things like that? Crossing so many lines, I can't even begin to detail.
Trolling, like bullying, has to be taken seriously. Perhaps in different ways since trolling is veiled by anonymity, for the most part, but they are both very underestimating methods of gaining malicious pleasure.
I've experienced an insane amount of trolling all over the internet, from tumblr to YouTube to online games *ha ha*, I usually try to avoid them since it always leads to a pointless argument and yes, retaliating to them is exactly what they want but sometimes you can't really help it if they've said something very offensive.
For example a few days ago while reading through a band's Facebook page, I saw a troll write on their page saying a certain band member deserved to die and that they 'suck'. I really wanted to give him a piece of my mind but then again he's an ignorant idiot hiding behind a keyboard, i'd like to see HIM say that out loud in real life.
They just have the guts to do it because they think they can't be traced, I bet those trolls can't say that to Natasha and Tom's parent's faces.
But as irritating as trolls can get the best thing to do is to just avoid them, if they don't have enough guts to say something without being anonymous then that's just proof enough how sad and pathetic they are.
I think anybody who has been on YouTube has experienced trolls trying to spice up their overly pathetic lives. I can't even fathom the types of things that these people have said to actually lead another human being to their own grave.
If somebody wants to make a memorial page for their deceased friend, then it's business between them and the community that surrounded this particular friend. If any outsider decides to show their sympathy on this particular page, then I would applaud them for lending such feelings to someone whom they've never met before. I'm not sure whether that is considered trolling as well, but let's just stick to our mother's advice and say nothing at all if we can't find something nice to say.
Trolling is nothing but a wretched, counter-productive way to spend your time, and I can only hope that these grubby little slimeballs get what they deserve in the end.
Youtube is filled with trolls. A perfect example is the music video of Baby by Justin Bieber. Though it's one of the most viewed videos on Youtube, it has more dislikes than likes and is filled with hate comments. Millions of trolls open the video just to dislike the video and write nasty comments. Trolls are just low lives who have nothing better to do with their time.
Personally, I haven't had a major experience with trolls. Just the usual disagreements and whatnot. However, I do think the whole concept is pointless. Someone sitting behind a keyboard, expressing their unwanted opinions and constantly bashing on other things for purposeless reasons is pretty pathetic. I think YouTube has A LOT of cyber trolls, ridiculing everything and everyone just for the heck of it. What Lorenzo said, Justin Bieber videos, in general, is home to trolls. Sad thing is, half the comments don't make any sense and the other quarter is out of pure jealousy. "If you can't say anything nice, don't say anything at all" Cliche, but true. Why waste your time bashing someone else when you could be doing something more productive? Like I said, pathetic.
Ofcourse I have seen some sort of trolls, but not as half sick as what those poor families have experienced. I have only seen trolls between friends to annoy eachother as a joke, but nothing as serious as what some people are obviously capable of doing. It is highly devistating to even read about some of the cases of trolling that goes on, but to experience it for yourself must be heart-breaking. I hope a harsh law is implimented to banish all deadly "trollers".
I agree with everyone, internet trolls are just people who are bored and want to make people say negative things. Like most people, I've seen on youtube the extent of rude comments that occur, but fortunately , I haven't personally experienced trolling.
I CANNOT believe HUMANS like you and me would do such inhumane acts of evil, especially to families who, at the time, are so emotionally fragile... and then laugh about it. Something like 'i hate Miley Cyrus' or something in the comments below their videos, though bad, are almost insignificant compared to 'LULZ'ing about the dead. Sad, lifeless, jobless people...
Cyber trolls are just cowards who cant face to bully someone or something in person. I read the tragic article and it melted my hear that some people could be so stone-hearted. They really have mental issues. And if they think they're cool, they should get some therapy. I haven't had any significant trollers myself but i do believe serious action needs to be taken against them.
Personally, I havent experienced much of cyber trolling. However, I've noticed MANY and especially on YouTube where people would just bash onto videos and irrelevantly express their unwanted opinions.
First of, the whole idea of cyber trolling is pathetic. I mean it ridiculous, having to spend your precious time on purposeless work that does nothing but harm other's feelings and initiate pointless arguments. What do they gain out of this? Nothing? Why do something unproductive as such when you can use this time to spend on practical implementation?
Its just pathetic, like Yolany said, and rude as well.
This is so similar to bullying, except you need guts and courage to bully someone face to face, rather than hiding behind the screen, and laughing sadistically after inflicting pain on others. These people are probably have no life or need to be admitted in some asylum.
Although I have not experienced it first-hand, driving someone to commit suicide is completely outrageous.
Sorry I can't think of any experiences I've had with trolling.
Though reading through the examples given trolls sounds to me to be people emotionally disturbed whose only comfort is to bring people down to the level of emotional disturbance they are at. I also feel as though they have chosen the computer as a resource to do this simply because they may be afraid to physically cause such damage in fear of the physical reaction (cowards).
Or they could jut be some bullied and tormented kid who sees the situation as if it's being done to me than what's wrong with me doing it to others and like mentioned before probably used the internet basically because their a coward.
Yet this is only my view of the problem.
As for a solution, what can we do it's on the internet (cowards).
I agree with everyone; trolls are just bored people with negative things to say, looking for a fight, or to start an argument, or to simply just disrupt the flow of whatever it is. They do start to get annoying, especially if their spamming starts to get consistent.. I think it's easiest just to ignore them. I haven't really experienced any internet trolling for myself, but when I do come across spam comments on sites like YouTube, it is rather disturbing.
I agree with everyone too. Trolls are just people who don't have anything better to do rather than sitting on the net for hours and hours. Well, as far I can re-call, I've never been through internet trolling. But, I've experienced 'phone trolling' quite a lot. It's just so annoying because eventually I just had to change my SIM card.
Well, when I think of trolling, I immediately come to think of Youtube. That site must have the most trollers! I have a tendency to read comments under videos for some reason and I have never not seen some sort of 'war' going on.
I have actually never heard of 'RIP trolling' I didn't even THINK it was possible for some people out there to be that twisted in their minds, bored and extremely inconsiderate. unbelievable.

Okay, I just read the 'tormented by trolling' article.
They went WAY TOO FAR.
Those weren't just trolls.
They're people with severe mental issues.
People should know when to draw the line.

If I go onto launch a personal attack on trolls, does that make me a troll...?
