I posted this last year, but I'm posting it again for my new students. This could be the most important video of your life. The TED conference is dedicated to “ideas worth spreading.” Here, Sir Ken makes a witty, poignant, highly entertaining and profoundly moving case for creating an education system that nurtures (rather than undermines) creativity.
He’s one of those rare speakers who is both funny and intelligent! It’s 15 min. or so long, but well worth it. Watch it and make your parents watch it as well.

Wise words.
I think sir ken really knows his stuff.
He opens our eyes and makes us see that intelligence comes in many different forms.
If a child gets low grades and doesn't listen in class that doesn't mean he/she is unintelligent. It simply means that academics isn't his/her area of allure and brainpower.
Unfortunately, today the brain abilities are treasured so much more than that of the body.
He tells us that we live in a world where a person is judged by their academic achievements. Other sensational talents such as dancing and singing arent valued as much as maths and that is precisely how were demolishing creativity.
A lot of school discourage these talents and try to replace them with theoretical studies. In this way, they're discouraging creativity in children and honestly, in my words i think the world's being turned into a a repetitive and tedious place.
Very wise indeed :0
I do not, for the life of me, understand why Math and science are deemed MAJOR subjects, or are seen as more important than art and music. Why are they deemed superior?
Just because a person is bad at math does not mean he is unintelligent. Who knows, they might be a virtuoso in playing the piano?
Humans don't survive on pure school-learned knowledge alone.
The brain isn't the only part of the body which should be able to speak. Our souls speak through art, dance and music.
Society puts university degrees on a pedestal, yet in this process, it ends up reducing us to bookish human beings, crushing our creativity and silencing our souls forever.
Personally, I hate lessons where we have to write and write and not learn anything.
Some education systems believe in all work and no play. I think there should be a balance.
It is true that creativity cannot be intergrated with every subject but teachers could have a creative edge to their lessons. Simple things like using music during lessons whilst we do our work. (I don't know how well it will work in Winch :)). Or using coloured pens in note taking.
Some people think dance isn't sport. They think languages and art are not important.
I am not so keen on writing and writing and the rules that come with certain subjects. But that comes part of the package.
We need more creative and forward thinking individuals like him in the field of education.
The education system needs a revolution.
LoL doing answering this straight after the "Brain Transplant" thunk makes me think he got Einstein's brains. This underlines the importance of Active learning. Rote Learning isn't very interesting and certainly not as educative as Active learning ;)
The video did not open, unfortunately.
I remember watching this video last year. Sir Ken Robinson is a genius, period. It will take a long time for this video to become outdated, assuming it ever does become outdated. Zarah, there are many other ways of watching the video. All you have to do is go to YouTube and execute a search for 'Sir Ken Robinson: Do schools kill creativity?'. Make sure you get an authentic video by checking the duration is twenty minutes long. I hope this helps. You really need to watch this video, Zarah.
There are two types of people.
The logical ones, and the creative ones.
Oh and ofcourse, the blessed few who are a mix of logicality and creativity.
I agree with Sir Ken; what a genius.
Why waste a beautifully artistic mind on math equations that tire it and deprive it of developing creatively? That's ruining individuality; not building it.
Somehow, when you think about it that way, a small purpose of school existing begins to fade away.
I completely agree with Tanya and Sir Ken. Our world is filled with types of people some enjoy moving, some enjoy writing or reading and some enjoy math I could go on and on about what people enjoy.
What Sir Ken is saying is very convincing and makes a lot of sense. I will definitely show this to my parents as I think it is a very concerning matter. Personally I hope to see a change in schools and teachers especially in Winchester school. There is no doubt that most of the lessons in our school can get a bit boring. Nevertheless I think improvement is what it needs. :)
Wow. This was a very dynamic and educating video to watch.
i strongly agree with the message that he is conveying, as every person has a different way of learning, yet not many schools acknowledge and use a system that will be able to accommodate every student, and instead of encouraging a student, we are often discouraged.
There are many multi-billionaires today that made it through life without school, only because it was said to them that they weren't "smart enough" or they were failing, which resulted in a strong resentment for school and lead to many dropping out.
Sir Ken is a real genius. He really opened my eyes!
Wow. It was totally captivating. Sir Ken is definitely wise and knows what he is talking about. :O
I agree with him about how creativity is no longer put into our daily lives. How education kills whats left of our ability to be creative. Why is art and music at the bottom of the list of priority subjects?
He is an amazing speaker and he speaks about what's right. We should use ALL of our abilities and that includes using our body and mind. They should be equally important.
Wise and dynamic. I agree with every point he mentioned. He makes us aware that the ability to comprehend and acquire knowledge comes in different ways.
I strongly agree with Shafnaa:"The education system needs a revolution."
Creativity and logic are skills needed to be a blessed learner. Unfortunately, some lack one of these. And this is why the education system nowadays needs a revolution. Art and music must not be given the least priority below other aspects of education.
woow he really shines a light onto the subject i would never thought about....and to be quite honest i thought it was normal body language......
