In my honest opinion there are some countries out there that deserve a good natural disaster to bring themselves back to earth. But Haiti, is poor, extremely poor, sure there have been 'disagreements' but what do these 'elders' think that they've done wrong?
Btw Sir, about the argumentative writing... I havent got the Ppp by email, and just wondering wether i should just write it without the arguments.
It's rage-inducing ignorance like that which ends up with me dragging my sick behind out of bed and ranting to my mother about how foolish people can be sometimes.
No; Haiti is not paying the price. What happened in Haiti is the unfortunate consequence of it not being able to construct earthquake-proof buildings because of its poverty.
No; Haiti's poverty is not due to any Divine One's choice to make them suffer for their sins. Haiti's poverty is simply a result of greedy politicians, self-righteous imperialists and unaffordable debts. All bad luck.
None of the above is a good enough excuse to not show some compassion towards those who so desperately need it. Nothing is a good enough excuse and if anyone believes that, then you are delusional.
...Going to go back to bed now. |D; Sorry for any incoherency on my part.
Divine retribution?? ok. but maybe not. It depends on your beliefs, really. I mean divine sounds more like religious beliefs, doesnt it?
I will simply put it as nature's wrath against us for being so 'not' environment friendly. Maybe its earth giving us signs of an impending doom if we dont correct our destructive ways soon. -----------------------------------
Divine retribution eh? Sounds like we have another "2012" case on our hands. Of course it is a possibility, I mean anything is possible. But personally I find it all myth.
Well To be honest I knew something like this was gonna happen, just looking at the pattern of the past few years it was inevitable that X country shall recieve X disaster and the world wide nations shall donate XXXX amount of money and aid. The only constant is that it's some country not many people know about or some country thats poor.
Alot like math, Next I calculate that another disastor shall happen within the next 8 months.
(Oh and a random quick fact, Haiti is where the idea of zombies came from, So if you got nightmares from watching some horrow movie you know which country to blame)
Well, after doing some research, I found out a few things which can be quite weird yet interesting!
Apparently, the Haitians are supposed devil worshippers. Crazy right?
So, a long time ago, when Haiti was under siege by the French, they made a little "deal with the devil himself!" to be rid of the French. The devil (feeling really generous that day) obliged. However, the deal was that the Haitians swear a lifelong time of servitude.
Ever since, the Haitians have been "cursed" with terrible misfortunes and catastrophies that many think have something to do with their deal.
Now, agreeing or disagreeing with this matter would test your belief of the almighty devil, and so, as I most certainly don't believe in that stuff, I would have to disagree, saying that the Haitians are just in the way of many natural disasters and that they are very unfortunate, though not cursed!
Ok divine retribution? Ugh, that's ridiculous! No one ever deserves to go through what Haiti went through. That said, a natural disaster being pinned down as something spiritual is just escapism. Frankly speaking, a divine spirit is supposed to be all forgiving so I highly doubt the Gods are behind this. Truth is, this is another very very unfortunate natural disaster, like the tornadoes and the tsunamis, and like everything large-scaled, this will evoke reactions (some being as ridiculous as the subject of debate). Frankly, we should start going green before WE get some of that divine retribution :P
It really ticks me off when people say this about any natural disaster that takes place.
"Oh, they're getting punished. They deserve it, it's their fault for being such sinful monsters."
Forgive me for being crass, but I'm going to say this: What bullsh*t.
What happened in Haiti was a natural disaster.
If this was divine retribution, then why Haiti? How come the other, more twisted countries, remain unscathed?
This is probably just another ploy to make people turn to religion. If they're such great religious figures, and if they are concerned about the welfare of humanity, why not do something that actually helps, instead of blaming the people for their own unfortunate fate.
Well, in Islam, we believe that countries suffer natural disasters because of the extreme amount of sins they have comitted. Being a Muslim, and a fairly religious one, I don't completely agree, but I believe it.
I believe in destiny, and if it's in your fate that you will die in an earthquake because God believe you deserve it, then I'm not one to judge whether or not God is right.
Well I dont exactly think its divine retribution but it is a retribution of not taking care of our world properly. Its the result of global warming. I mean if we keep preaching that we should Go green we should in take start doing some action towards taking care of our world.
Who are we to say whether this was divine retribution or not? Even if someone says it is, that person is never, and will never, be a hundred percent sure, other than God himself, same thing applies to someone who says it was just natural, but in fact, there is no way of proving it. How can someone agree that this was due to a religious incident, or that it randomly happened?
I don't agree or disagree. What type of question is this, sir? It is something no-one will ever know, and this coincides with whatever religion is dominant to those people who claim that the earthquake was divine retribution, thus there is no solid ground in which we can agree or disagree, since I don't think anyone here worshipps the devil (as Payam says anyway), therefore this question is a dead end.
I don't know whether to agree or to disagree on this matter. Agreeing with Myra, believing in destiny, fate etc. I believe that if it's your time to go, then it's your time to go; something which I consider to be uncontrollable.
However, on the other hand I also believe that we had led ourselves into these natural disasters that have occured of the past years. Having the tallest building, fastest car, polluting, littering, damaging habitats/environment. A term commonly known as 'Global Warming'.
Maybe we could have a new theory/belief :P "Rahul's Theory" Putting my first point and second point together, I THINK, and I can't be sure on this one, that stranding us with these natural distasters is God's way of punishing us for mis-treating his creation.
Dead end to you, Mo. Obviously not to a lot of people who are quite eager to speak on behalf of a divinity.
Mo: "What type of question is this, sir?"
Watch how you phrase your sentences. You wouldn't dare ask me that question to my face. Don't think adding "sir" to an arrogant and aggressive question makes it ok. This is a school blog, you'd be wise not to forget that.
I did not mean it that way at all, and I apologize for the arrogance and aggression I placed in the comment. The point that I was trying to explain was that how can this question be answered, with a factual backup.
Yes, it’s true that in Islam, natural disasters occur in countries that have committed tremendous amounts of sins……… but I myself don’t completely agree with it but then again I don’t disbelieve it too. (agreeing with Myra)
This is hard .. ever heard of rapture? anyway ..im not sure which side to be on .. on one it is one in a chain of natural disasters plaguing the earth for the past recent years on the other hand, being religious myself i believe it may also be a sign . telling us to redeem ourselves . we haven't heeded these signs yet being a ignorant humans that we are ..so i guess theres going to be another great earthquake which will kill 200,000 people the next time or a volcano ..or maybe a giant bird (:D) that eats people at random haha . you never know .. but anyway .. i guess im on the side of ''divine retribution '' seeing as i don't have many points supporting the 'scientific part of it .. but i guess the best thing i COULD say is .... global warming ?? ''to believe or not to believe " that is the question .
Maybe a devastating earthquake would be in order? All I know is that I'm not going to get off topic, and still cannot see the Karma in this... I still can't seem to find what they could have ever done wrong.
I am not sure what to say about this because it is true that God does punish people through natural disasters and learning that Haitians are devil worshippers it could be.Yet I am not saying that I feel no sympathy for them. Aisha Bashir 10g2
No, they say this for each and every natural disaster that takes place. I believe that natural disasters cannot be predicted or stopped, they simply "happen".
Another factor, could be the repercussions of our own actions. These deadly natural disasters could be taking place as a result of global warming. It may not be divine retribution, but it could be Mother Nature's retribution!
I strongly disagree, this is because it was a geographical reason what caused this.
The quake occurred in the vicinity of the northern boundary where the Caribbean tectonic plate shifts eastwards by about 20 millimetres (0.79 in) per year in relation to the North American plate.

Divine retribution? Why didn't they day the same about katrina, the 2004 tsunami, the Gujrat earthquake? Why just this?

I believe they did say the same after all the disasters you've named above.

LOL Mr. Roberts, it's me :)
And YES I soo agree with Rahul! It's a combination of what God gives you because of the misdeeds you've brought (pollution etc.)

I agree with Manveen, the Haiti earthquake was unfortunate. There can be precautions by alerts but we cannot control it from happening.
I am not sure what to say about this because it is true that God does punish people through natural disasters and learning that Haitians are devil worshippers it could be.Yet I am not saying that I feel no sympathy for them.
