It all begins with Lily, a lonely oddball and fast-food waitress who happens to be a hopeless romantic. Then there’s Jarrod, the man of Lily’s dreams, another lonely oddball and video game clerk, who has spent the last decade plotting ultimate vengeance on a bully from his high school past.
When these two connect at a “dress as your favourite animal” party, she’s an anaemic Shark and he’s a fluffy-headed Eagle. It’s a match that seems made in outcast heaven, but when Lily decides to risk everything for love, her hopes are nearly dashed. After a brief fling, Jarrod dumps Lily because he’s too busy “training” for his all-important payback mission. But neither of them can anticipate just what kind of grit the steadfastly optimistic Lily will show in her heartbreak. As Jarrod’s day of reckoning arrives, and everything hits the fan, Jarrod and Lily will find something that goes beyond romance and revenge -- faith in who they are.

Things to Think about:
1. How would you describe Lily and Jarrod?
2. How does all the absurdity in the film tie up with deeper emotional truths?
3. Why does Jarrod attack the cripple even though he knows it was wrong?
4. Disucss the elements of humour and quirkiness in the film.

Lilly, to me, is a lonely romantic woman who is treated as an outcast in her job at Meaty Boy. She is a bit of a push over but shows that she can fight back if she really wanted to.
This is evidant when she continues to sing a song wrong even after being corrected.
Jarrod is person who has grown up trying to be as ready as possible for one single moment. That moment was when he confronts his old school bully. He wants to impress his father and tries to be like his deceaded brother as much as possible. He is also a bit of a looney :P I say this because he seems to think that he's an accomplished Kung Fu Master and the greatest video gamer!
Jarrod is a lonely child who has been outshone by his older brother. He tries to replace his brother by becoming as athletic as possible and he also tries to be really good at something. In his case, making candles in different models. He chose the eagle because s/he or it dominates the sky and looks cool. Be that as it may, he also chooses the eagle because his brother jumped off a high cliff and died.
Lilly, being the push over that she is, is also a bit in the sense that she cares about Jarrod but only really shows it at the end, where she actually follows him and stands by him.
He attacks the cripple because he taught himself that that is his purpose. It is his "secret mission". He could not comprehend that his old school bully is crippled. Faced between letting a crippled bully go and completing his task, he choose the latter. He gets beaten in the end and runs away in shame.
I thought it was like a cartoon-ish movie, where it all seemed so funny and done to portray more than what it would seem.
It was a good laugh.

Eagle vs Shark is a humourous movie that shows how two people try hard to fit in other people's perceptions. They share a similar characteristics of their favourite animals.
Treated as an outcast in the society around her, the soft spoken yet romantic Lily tries hard to join the crowd by trying to have a simple conversation or laugh with them. The only one who stands by her side and sees her differently is her brother. Jarrod obviously has'nt seen her like that as her brother does until the near end of the movie. But there are times she stands her ground and not quite submissive as Jarrod is and through the course of the movie shows her grit--she does not give up easily. This is shown when she sticks to Jarrod till the end like a preadator after prey. Her favourite animal or(more close to sea)fish is a shark. A creature that is more of a loner yet very unique...just like Lily.
Jarrod on the other hand...is well a handful...he seems to be in his own world...playing video games...loner again--just like his favourite animal or er bird--the eagle!
Why couldnt they have a more nature-in-whole animal party?? rather than being so specific??
Anyway coming back to Jarrod.Lonely kid...no wait i said that already...oh yeah--He does have one major aim in life...speaking of aim...he wanted to land one on his old school "nemesis". As he was a loner and seen as a nerd in school...its of no suprise that he was bullied...His life purpose was this one thing, adding to that to also gain the necessary respect and praise from his family and his father mainly.
Sadly--he fails there too.
Again.
He's not a complete failure though...his father couldnt accept him for the way he is and wanted him to be like his older brother.
Jarrod is a creative fellow and can make dull looking candles artistic. However his dad never saw him like so he goes to lengths to impress his father. He chose the eagle because he wants to reach the skies and not to fall like his brother.
His brother died by jumping off a cliff ironically a same place a eagle would soar from and hence the reason he chooses the eagle.
The movie was different yet emotional and extremely hilarious at some parts.
A good movie though had it not been funny it wouldnt have a made an interesting movie.
Still, worth a good chance.
