For me, critical thinking is understanding the nuances of a phenomenon. Too often we think of something one-dimensionally - mostly, it's impact on us. To critically think about something is to understand its history, present, plausible future, and impact on a horizontal and vertical timeline, under different influences and under no influences.

It's acknowledging the whole spectrum of possibilities - not just the one in your immediate peripheral.

Critical thinking is when a person tries knowing something in depth and looks at every possible cause of this reaction or anything. this could even lead to historical background or trying to predict what might happen in future. Critical thinking is just like analyzing in Literature.

To me it’s an open minded view or mode of thought regarding various contents, topics, problems, etc. It’s the process in which we conceptualize and synthesize information and apply it to the principles of logic. It basically encourages us to think out of the box and be more inquisitive.

Similarly to what Neiha said, it’s a pervasive and self-rectifying human phenomenon.

What springs to mind when thinking of 'critical thinking' is the analytical, objective lens trough which evidence is weighed, all perspectives taken into account, and an informed and well-supported stance is taken.

For me, critical thinking is understanding and analysing a situation, or a topic, in full detail. It involves being aware of the consequences of said situation on not only yourself, but the whole wider population. To fully 'critically' think about something, one needs to be on terms with the topics background/history, its causes, long term/short term effects, and how it could be improved.

Critical Thinking is a way for a person to evaluate and enhance their skills not only by listening and questioning but to also help ourselves find our own ways to come up with solutions. This will help widen our perspective and broaden our knowledge to keep us well informed from a certain subject and with critical thinking, they will guide us to overcome challenges and complicated situations.

I believe Critical Thinking is the way in which we are able to carefully and skillfully formulate and tackle a topic with a background of well-thought-out views/judgements and awareness of facts. Like Shenny mentioned, in order to think critically; we basically have to think outside the box and not restrict ourselves to look or think of things one-dimensionally.

To me, critical thinking is an ability every individual contains, however a fair amount of them does not utilise this skill because they're often stuck inside a box that entraps their thoughts preventing individuals to look beyond the context.

To think of something critically an individual must be able to see through the topic and use not only facts but also the "maybes". Critical thinking enables individuals towards a better future

Critical thinking to me would be the understanding and grasping of any given topic, situation or whatsoever. It would be thinking outside the box, as many above comments have mentioned and reading between the lines as well. It's basically being knowledgeable about the given topic, and being able to speak about it from our own perspective too, and not just stating the obvious.

To me critical thinking is just the process of deeply analysing something including all it's variables and possible effects, processes and outcomes.
However what comes to mind when I hear the term is, the process of thought in which one is forced to make a decision that has serious consequence on the individuals life or circumstance.

Critical thinking means to have an open mind, have in depth analysis and consider all aspects of a question or topic. It shouldn't be straight forward thinking or one dimensional thinking, you should be able to approach a question or topic from all sorts of angles and consider all possibilities.

When a person analyzes the topic he/she is researching from both side in odered to be objective. You conduct your research thoroughly and dont land on someone elses opinion. You develop your own understanding from the information you have gathered.

In critical thinking everyone has their own idea to share there is no right or wrong... we all interpret our ideas in different ways. Through discussions we put together our ideas to form a conclusion about a particular topic.

Critical thinking is a higher order of thinking that we use to reflect and reason with everything that goes on around us, I suppose. Daniel's comment: "In critical thinking everyone has their own idea to share there is no right or wrong... we all interpret our ideas in different ways. Through discussions we put together our ideas to form a conclusion about a particular topic.", made me think that all of us, what we're doing now, commenting on this thunk, is critical thinking.

The most popular definition for critical thinking that i came across is 'The process of independently analyzing, synthesizing, and evaluating information as a guide to behavior and beliefs.' in other more simpler words To think critically is, among other things, to be fair and open-minded while thinking carefully about what to do or what to believe. If you are a critical thinker, you will assess the reasons for and against doing something and then make your decision on the basis of a fair assessment, not on the basis of your emotions nor on what your astrology column says nor on whether the person giving you the reasons is looking you in the eye while sounding sincere and definitely not on the basis of a coin flip instead you would closely analyze moreover you would read between the lines , i think this fairly defines the definition itself in a more simple manner.

For me it means to think outside the box and consider external forces that also play a part in the situation.
It helps us by being objective towards topics that many are subjective towards.
It also helps with understanding the biographical and historical aspects of different topics.

Personally, when I hear the word 'critical thinking', I think of using your intelligence and your sense of understanding to answer something that must be given a lot of thought. It is like searching deep within your thoughts, and trying to find the perfect explanation for something.

I think the phrase "Critical Thinking" is the most literal phrase for me. The concept of "Critical Thinking" is conceptualizing or formulating ideas and thoughts that can stimulate and provoke the thoughts of other individuals. These ideas and thoughts, will cause an impetus that will ultimately cause a chain reaction of ideas hence formulating brain storming sessions that inevitably results in very intellectual discussions.

For me critical thinking means being open minded of alternatives, being well informed and judging the quality of an argument.

Critical thinking is when a person's mind works to its maximum making the impossible seem possible and the difficult understandable...

Primarily, I feel like critical thinking is about being able to evaluate a certain topic or idea through several means- it’s to explore all possibilities rather than reiterating one single view. It’s also to be constantly skeptical, to keep asking questions about the question itself. It’s the sort if thinking that allows one to learn new things in the process.
