Knowledge

Is there any knowledge that humans should not seek to discover (because it's undesirable, immoral, too dangerous or for any other reason)?

I'm sure there is. The knowledge of how to prevent death is one of them.

To be honest, the idea of there being an end to learning is just the scariest thing in the world. There should be know sure-shot way to gaining knowledge. It SHOULD be a struggle.

It's a quite tricky question and I feel that answers may greatly vary depending on the era we live in. For example, just as we may think that the knowledge of how to prolong or eradicate death is something that should not be develled into is the same way many people in previous eras must of felt about the big bang theory and the questioning of god as creator.
And just as we don't see anything wrong in the discover of the origin of the universe, people in the generations to come may feel the same way about the prolongment of death.
Inevitably, progression will continue and can never truly be stopped for as long as theirs a will, and determined scientist, there is a way.
So the question I would really ask is could there possibly be a limit to amount of attainable knowledge in the universe? Could humans ever know all there is to know?

"Knowledge is power". Knowledge is a vital necessity in life, knowing various things help us to refrain from certain activities, actions, etc. Although it is great to have knowledge, not EVERYTHING has to be discovered or known, some things should be left a mystery for them to maintain their "greatness"

'Ignorance is bliss.' I suppose if one seeks to be happy in life, the less one knows, the better. I mean a person could be perfectly content with life not knowing things and just think positively and optimistically about everything. Why would you want to know when one exactly dies? Or when the world ends? Or even deep dark secrets of people? There are just some things we're not meant to know.

Besides, if one knows everything life has to offer, what is left to the imagination? What is left to hope for? To worry about? If you know everything, what's the point of living? Life is supposed to be unpredictable, that's what makes it interesting.

Wow,well i do not believe in limiting what the human mind can discover, but i guess the day of which the world shall end is a form of knowledge that humans should not seek to discover.

i believe humans should not seek to discover the future as this will have a great impact on their life for examle DEATH. if a person was to know they were going to die in a week, that would greatly affect them and so i agree with angelica life is supposed to be unpredictable and thats its beauty that we dont know what happens next and one of the great lessons i've learned so far is patience.

No, there shouldn't be any restrictions to what knowledge people can seek but there should be restrictions on what people do with that knowledge. It might seem unreasonable and as if there is no result for the knowledge you discover but there will always be people with good and bad intentions.

For example, if someone was to sought out information about the most powerful weapon on earth, I dont think you should stop them from seeking that information. However, once they're done with their discovery, what if their intentions are to go to war or kill an entire race? Why cant you stop them?

The alchemists pursed such a thing, they pursed immortality and riches. For millions of years this search continued until one by one they gave up. Soon the cause was lost.

There has been a legend about 'the ghost of Himalayas'. Around the second dynasty, a wise man was sent to investigate further about the fountain of youth. Centuries passed yet he never returned but has been spotted more than a handful of times in many different eras. During these sightings he was surrounded by animals. Some say he used familiar magic and others say he was (and is) a warg.

Imagine if the China-man (not being racist) or the alchemists found this overwhelming power... They say greed is the mortality of men and if you had an ability thy wouldn't mind using it for ill purposes. In exchange you would receive a power beyond imagination (combined with the overwhelming power, which would equal to a lot of power). I personally would start a world war and rule forever as high emperor.

YET throughout the ages no one has found this knowledge and performed what I mentioned before(lets face it EVERYONE would do that). This proves power that cannot be controlled or no one man(or woman) is worthy enough to posses it.

(Or something like that does not exist and all those people were crazy XD ).

They say the less you know, the happier you are. To be honest I'm a really curious and I try to seek knowledge all the time. I enjoy reading articles about random things and 'general knowledge' so in my opinion I generally there's nothing wrong with seeking knowledge but I guess there are certain things that we shouldn't know. Things that would keep the world sane/stable such as Neiha has said about the knowledge of preventing death.
