Yes, you can justify your choice in this comment section.

I picked no.

Why? Because I think a lot of other things should be taken into account when deciding whether or not the student should be promoted.

1) What good will it do for the student to have to repeat the year? This depends almost entirely on the attitude of the student in question. >: What if the things you say or do simply don't affect them? What if they don't have an ego and just laugh off their failure? Having too much of an ego is a bad thing, but some sort of narcissism won't hurt.

2) Look at the student's history - how was their performance during the year? Did they pay attention or slack off, did they show enthusiasm, did they show an interest or simply sleep through it? Sometimes exam results aren't as good as what is expected of the student not just because "oh, he/she didn't study." There's other factors to be taken into consideration, right?

3) The potential. The potential. The po.ten.tial. I caaan't stress this enough ;;

There's other things too - dedication, behaviour, skills - that should be thought about too. Sometimes, it's just not fair on the student.

...another thing you could do is not make them repeat the WHOLE year, but make them repeat the classes they failed. That isn't so hard - shouldn't be too much of a blow to the student's self-esteem either.

...i'm going to cut myself short l-lol i'm prone to rambling. Sorryyyy ;;

Yes, students who failed in more than three subjects should be asked to repeat the year……because:

If you are not able to pass you’re current level then how will you pass a level which is harder??

For example: if you fail in 3 or more subjects in year 8 how will you cope up with year 9????

Yes, they should have to redo the year. 3 subjects is more than generous enough, to think that someone who fails a subject at level 'A', which they have studied for a whole year, could go to level 'B' and actually pass is improbable... Especially they've failed 3 of these subjects!

Any other method than this is going to come down to purely to teachers. I.e: Teachers collectively decide wether the student should pass, no matter how many subjects he/she has failed... And thats just asking for truble.

I believe they should be asked but not required. Why should a student who doesn't care to try hard enough to pass the second time have to be dealt with by teachers? Let them continue through a life of failure if they choose to.

I dont think they should repeat the year.. they should be given a second chance (possibly in the form of retests).
If they still don't do better, then it obviously means they have no intention of improving in future and THEN they can be asked to repeat the year.
