Well, I was there and I can honestly say that I genuinely enjoyed it! I really admired the team support that everyone was showing. Especially for the 800 meter runners; the participants' team mates would run along with them and shout words of courage and motivation.
The music that was played was also a great help as the kids started getiing hyper and jumpy, not to mention anxious to get the events in motion!
One trivia that could be improved upon is the organisation of the students' seating, as that was quite a problem starter; kids would drag their chairs literally onto the track and Mr. Green and others would have to shout at them to get off. This kind of ruined the mood as the teachers kept stressing about this situation.
But other than that, the Sports Day was an absolute blast!! :)
Sports Day! Ok, there are many goods aswell as a few bads. The best thing was that - We had a sports day! It was organised, students had the opportunity to take part in various events, water was made available to all-Participants, the audience and the staff aswell. Music kept the motivation high for some teams. Whereas some things also went wrong.
There were too many events taking place which made it confusing for the participants as to which ones to attend first. There were no selections made by the teams to find out the best person to represent the team at a sport. At the end moment, people had to make decisions becuase there were more than 2 people for one sport from each team. The participants were'nt called in for practice or tips before the sports day. Which made it difficult for participants playing after a long time to give their best performance. Spectators kept deviating from their alloted places, which was distracting. The main behind this was that, the chairs were faced only towards the track events and not others like discuss, high jump etc.
It would be better if there was a break between the events so that the audience would avoid eating on the field and littering the place with plastic bags. Rules should have been explained to the Staff before hand as to how the participation per team works. Selections would have caused less chaos before the events.
But it was amazing!! The Teachers were very supportive as they danced on Indian and Arabic beats! By the way, who won the Sports day? Earth?
I really liked the Sports Day! Having the boys there made most girls feel like they should do well (and vice versa haha) but otherwise they were really motivational and it was great! It was a bit messy though cause there were so many people and it had never been mix-gendered before but it still ran smoothly
I loved it! I think the grades could've been separated, maybe 7,8,9 alone, and 10 above on another day. Also, seating was a bit of an issue. Less than hour into sports day, everyone was all over the place. But there is some steady progress. Last year's was far messier than this year's. I think maybe for inter-house games (bball, soccer and such) next term, if we separate the key stages, it'll be far more organised.
I simply Loved sports day this year :) It was organized and full of fun. I also loved how the students were so encouraging. The music stopped after a while. Which was quite *arghh* but overall the day was realllyy fun :D
For Sonal: organising the team players was the house captain and vice captains job which they were given 2-3 weeks to complete. If they still couldn't get their act together then that's their fault! :) I personally lovvvvvvvvvvved sports day and thought it was a great success! The only drawback was that we couldn't complete all the events due to lack of time :(
Honestly, I was quite taken aback by this sports day, I have never ever experienced anything like it! In my old school boys and girls had seperate sports days and everything was very formal and organised. I feel that the music, cheering, shouts and crys were actually very influential in everyones mood. It wasn't the most organised event seen, but that chaos is what actually made it awesome fun. I think the teachers and organisers did a great job, including everyone who compeated. Well done everyone! Cant wait for next year (:
For Faiza: Yes, it was the House captains and the vice captains job to select the players who will represent the team but at the end moment We had many people who volunteered to play, and thats where the confusion came in. Some people who signed up also dint turn up. Nobody can be blamed for that.
Sports year this year was better than last year's one. :) Though I do agree that all the events taking place at the same time, and the seats were mainly focused on the track team. I've got friends who didnt have a clue how to survive for their events as well, since they did not practice or train at all.
I loved how everyone suddenly had this burst of team spirit :D ahahaha, before sports day, no one usually goes all out screaming "BOO YOUR TEAM SUCKS MINE IS BETTER". -.-
I loved how we werent made to sit out under the sun all through-out the day. And no offense to anyone, I love how everything was loose and relaxed and disorganized (A).
I do agree that the mess left afterwards was quite irritating though. There was litter everywhere. >.>
AND ELIQA'S RIGHT. WHERE OH WHERE DID THE MUSIC GO?! :(
@Priyanka: This is actually like the first time that boys and girls had sports day together. During the past two sports days i've witnessed, they were on different days.
Sports Day was pretty awesome because i know for a fact that everyone truely enjoyed it and i really admired the team support that everyone was showing.I also really admired the part where team mates held thier team flags and started running after thier team members in the 800 meter run and i gotta admit that i was one of them who was obviously cheering for *Earth* and suprisingly towards the end of sports day when we found out that earth had won a couple of guyz from year 7 started throwing water at eachother for fun and sadly washed me with water.
I loveeddd it!! The cheering, encouragement and team spirit was fantastic!.. it was super fun towards the end specifically, people played the drums and everyone was made to dance, that was awesome! Ok it was a bit disorganized but really who cares? All of us genuinely had fun and that's what really matters :)Only real issues i had with it is that it was reallyyyyy hot, but we can't really do anything about that can we XD
The sports day was simply awesome. :) Although, they couldve made it a little shorter. I agree with Eliqa, where did the music go? They should keep it playing to keep the mood up. And, if they do do that, they should put more speakers so that all the students and teachers could hear the speaker and the music clearly. Also, they should keep all the students in their own houses to keep it all organized because the students were all around and, as Payam said, they could literally drag their chairs anywhere they wanted. And, to conclude it, they should put up more sports such as Basketball, Football etc. But, all in all, it was a great time to show everyone our talents and hang around with people not only in our year group. The staff did a great job keeping in control of us.
I can honestly say that I had a heck of a time. :)
Sports day was really good. Everyone had the team spirit within them! Enemies in the same house became friends for a few hours :P
Perhaps seperating the year groups as Nadine said is a good idea as there wasn't enough time to complete some of the final relays and also to give the medals out and annouce which house won.
well personally, it couldnt have been better. It was the best sportsday i had ever participated in.well actually now that i think of it, the people who kept on running across the track were very annoying and very distracting for the runners. nnamdi.
sports day this year was definetely better than last years. i enjoyed it immensley and had a wonderful time. the way the people were cheering and showing their support towards their houses were spectacular! although i do agree with everyone else there was a seating problem where everyone pulled their chairs and sat where ever they wanted on the field. that part of the event could have been a little bit more orgonized.. but overall ot was a fun filled experience.
I think that a few sports captains were really very disorganised. A better team of leaders would help. And there was a clear lack in the planning of the event. I would like to see the event planned in a better way. Also I noticed that some players came late to participate and had to be called on many times to bring on their attention. This delayed a lot of things. Attention to this should also be payed and next year, they should simply eliminate the late-comers.
Overall, the sports day was good especially the idea that we could wear our house color. I like the fact that anyone can participate and try out for any category of sport even if they are good at it or not. But there are many things which I think could be improved for next year like: a temporary shade could be set up for the field as it really gets hot during the afternoon and can cause dehydration to the some participants who often faint due to this. There can be proper and audible announcements of the events taking place or about to take place and the current scores of each house. Also the music played as the background can be improved as well. The event should be kept short as this time some categories of sports were not performed as the time was less and even the awarding ceremony was also cancelled due to this. To make the event short, the sports day can be divided into boys and girls (like last year) or can be divided by grades.

I would contribute;
But I wasn't there. So I'm just going to have to read everyone's comments to know how it went x]

Btw I meant to say 'encouragement' not 'courage'
Sorry!

Have Boxing next year.
Thats something we will all love.
It was excellent and entertaining but of course we needed to be a little more organized.
