Remember Mr. Green's assembly two weeks ago when he talked about how what you learn in the first year at Uni will be obsolete by the time you graduate? When I was fifteen years old I hadn't even heard of the internet. If you told people back then that using the internet you could have access to music, movies, books, encyclopaedias, maps of cities and even satellite images of the world at the click of a button, people would have found it hard to believe. Today, people have the internet on their mobile phones. When IBM created the first computers in the 1950s they believed no one would need more than 50KB of storage space. Today, I have 160GB on my small ipod, which can hold nearly half a million songs. So, what does the future hold for us? Watch the mind-boggling possibilities showcased by this presenter at the prestigious TED conference - held for the first time outside California in the Indian city of Mysore. I was gobsmacked.
OH MY GOD!! Pranav Mistry's pure genius and intellects on software and technological devices are absolutely astounding! To think that we could have the power of technology in the palms of our hands! Literally!! WOW! I loved the examples they showed on the presentation especially the one with the video ON the newspaper! That is SOO cool! Mind, if they decide to put this technology out into the market there would be a hell of an uproar concerning all other technology producing companies as they would probably go out of business seeing as this SixthSense device pretty much beats all other technological devices! LOL!
I've seen this before, but it is amazing, nevertheless. The fact that the camera can read everyday objects, and display them elsewhere, fascinates me. I am completely intrigued by the fact that the speed required to relay information, by wireless technology, back and forth, is amazing. There are some flaws, but this is an amazing start.
I have seen this pong game type of another game in India at an Airport. I jumped in a pond and the water ripple around after it splashed but it was all digital. This is amazing! In the past people believed that desktops will be over 1 tonne in weight and would require more space than that of a room. But now, its right in your pockets. The camera bit was cool! And even the copy pasting bit. From paper right into your hands. Amazing
Another thing, it only costs $350, for the prototype, due to it being a combination of a web camera, a battery-powered projector and a mobile telephone. So its end price will be about double, maybe triple, making it cheaper than computers.
Good things come in small packages. ;p Oh yeah! Sonal, I saw that thing too! Technology these days! The term "There is nothing left to invent" is literally non-existent.
Seriously, whats next? Music CD's and DVD's being replaced with tiny memory cards?
When I researched about the component parts, I found it to be very easy to make, and can be home-made. It is a very simple structure, but, the hard part will be to make it last long, because that prototype shown in the video, would only last for a few hours max, and, if it does go to the market, people will want it working for 24 hours. It is very simple, but there is an advanced one for military use i've seen online somewhere. The structure wholly relies on an internet-access mobile phone, a small, but powerful, mini-projector and a web camera, which can be bought in electronic shops.
I think they will have to develop an internal software, mounted in a small external hard-disk, with built-in wireless, so that the phone can be removed, so that it is like a mini computer in your pocket. Also, the web camera will need to be completely synchronised with the hard-disk, therefore the projector must be aswell. The problems will be the security will be hard to install, and will cost alot, because anything using a software, can, and will be, hacked. A better structure for it, would be an eye-piece, with a built-in projector and camera, along with wireless technology, which I think they have already begun constructing, or finished.
Oh My God! Was that even real?? This man is frightfully genius, words fail me right now. Practical, innovative, and absolutely out of this world. What it introduces is a new era, a technological revolution. Out of all the TED videos I've watched, I think it's close to impossible to find another that tops this one.
that is truly brilliant. 'gobsmacked' is an understatement, sir. it would be sooooo awesome if i had one of these!!!! to combine the physical and digital world is amazing! i cant believe that this guy has found a way to do all of this, and in a pretty cheap way too!
That was mind blowing. When I watched the video in assembly last week, I wasn't really too worried. Now after watching this video, my mind wonders as to how many people there are out there like this!? I hadn't even thought ANYWHERE NEAR to what Pranav Mistry has created.
Amazing video, astounding creation! I will probably have nightmares regarding this issue now :P
WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOH ooh my WORD!!! i am dumb found!! its truly out of this world!! This man is pure genius!! its amazing how cheap it is aswel!! my two favourite parts were the copying of information from paper and just pinching it, and that video on the newspaper!! FABULOUS!! payam is sooooo right the SixthSense device beats everything!! im still in shock! thankz sir!! the best video ever!!
OH MY GOD!!! i can't beieve that's even real. I mean how can you pinch information of paper and put it on to the computer, i mean WOW!! That blew my mind, so stunning and unbelievably wonderful!!! Amazing how he could combine the physical and digital world! He's what you call a true genius!!! Im shocked!! :0
WOW. That was absolutely terrific. Hats off to Pranav; I am truly grateful that such a genuine and decent man is the one to bring forth humanity to its next big step. He has such an honest motive, of how he does not want us to become ‘machines using machines’. Instead of slaving away at a table and computer, we can now access the digital world at any possible surface. It is remarkable how he has considered the cost price, and I admire how he is trying his best to make this service available to everyone. Rather than using this for his own personal gain and for a specific company, he chooses to divulge; to share with the world his fantastic discoveries. Citing this technology phenomenal is an understatement. We have taken yet another giant leap in this era; how much further can we go?
OH MAN that was pure brilliance! This guys brought harry potter alive even with the moving newspaper pictures and everything! Like i said on the mayan calendar blog, there is still so much to be done before the plug is pulled now!
Oh wow! This is, incandescent. If i'm using the word correctly. :P
Hahaha Sabrina, what if it's not water proof :P !!! But, what will happen when we become too dependent on technology? when 5 year olds use google to find the answer for 1+1. Too many blogs, I think I lost it when I started thinking about not fishing being a hobby :P
How funny would you look to a passer-by if you randomly stop and start gesturing to a wall? Haha! Joke aside though, WHHAAAATT?!! This guy is a GENIUS!! He really promotes the stereotype that all Indians are scientific geniuses! Oh my God, the video on the newspaper (Harry Potter :P), taking pictures with your hands, dialling a number on your hand, paper-digital interaction just by pinching, automatically browsing the internet when you touch an object, having the power in your PALMS! Pranav has moved our civilization into a whole new generation!
(When he says thank you in the end, he sounds like King Julian in Madagascar! So cute lol)
Where can I get one?!!! That was totally amazing. Pranav Mistry is a pure genius, especially with all the features it has. You can watch a video by just looking at a picture. You can pull information onto any paper without even needing to type or write it down...That is just....Ok there is no word to describe it at the moment as i'm just speechless!
well.he was great! i just cant wait for it to become available to buy. I would just loooovve to not worry about forgetting my camera at home to take pictures. And the video on newspapers is absolutely WOW! But nevertheless, it is intriguing. Much so because of the fact that I always have wanted to have nothing to do with Science. But this stuff is simply fascinating.

So, this can be home-made, no time to waste. ;)

"Things are only easy after they have been done" - Sorry, I forgot that, respects to Pranav.
Damn that was cool. I want one.
But on the topic. Yes technology is getting more and more advanced through each year.
Need proof ?
The iPod, came out in 2001 it transformed culture and music for ever no one saw it coming .
Online Gaming, Being able to team up with a friend who is on the other side of the world all to just unlock the next level, no one saw it coming.
The internet, just a decade ago the internet was something we couldn't care much about now it runs the society, no one saw it coming.
The touch screen, 10 years ago the idea of a phone without buttons was impossible , now it's everywhere, No one saw it coming.
100 hundred years ago people thought man would never reach the moon.
50 years ago people could only get large amount of information from libraies.
10 years ago everyone was dumbfounded by the idea of a camera in a phone.
"Technology is like life, once it starts it doesn't stop"
That was scary!!!!.....i mean is there any word that could describe Parnav……??????
P.S.That was mystifying!!!!!!!!
P.P.S......I’m gone astray in the world full of geniuses.
