Reasons to get an education

CNNN is a satirical Australian news network. Here they interview random people on the street. The questions are simple but the answers will make you gasp.

This post may seem like it's anti-American, but that's not the intention.

Please no anti-American comments. There are extremely intelligent and kind people in America and extremely ignorant people as well - just like in every single country.

I dont know if saying that these people dint get any education would be right or not but surely their general knowledge about the world isnt that good.

Sir, why do many people feel America is stupid, because Ive watched a lot of TV shows which do videos like this, like Jay Leno, one of his favourite segments is asking american people questions?

I think they arent aware of the surroundings around them and the events happening around the world like a lot of people all over the world because they are not interested.

Mr. Roberts said...

Shweta,
There's a lot of editing going on. For every stupid answer they get they also get dozens of correct answers - which they don't show - coz it's not funny.

Do the same in any country and you'll get the same result - guaranteed. There are ignorant people everywhere.

Mr Roberts is right, there are ignorant people everywhere... And they are a minority. I've watched the bideo but after watching it again things get hazy over wether there are alot more ignorant people in the U.S...

At around 4 mins I think, I was suprised that she said Sri Lanka! Congrats to her for knowing it, but not knowing where it was? I'm quite offended.

But more than ignorance, I think the video points out how powerfull Americans 'think' they are. "We'll invade": "Iran", "Korea", "India", "Pakistan"... As if there would be no reproccussions!? They all got educations, they all have held and studied maps... But how you can remember it!? May I remind everyone then that the U.S.A consumes over a third of the worlds Drugs. :P.

The video was quite funny!
But on a more serious note, I do believe that the video is only showing the wrong answers or the stupid ones, as Mr. Roberts has said that there is a lot of edition in the video. But, i mean seriously, how is it that their common knowledge is so low? Ok there may be editing in the video, but some of the questions were really really simple! This video really points out that the world also has some ignorant people who aren't interested in attaining interesting or common knowledge, though the intelligent people definetely outweigh this small percentage! :)

LOL I'VE SEEN THIS ONE HAHA. Love iiit <3

However, I can testify to the fact that not all Americans are like this in the least. I've got some really intelligent American friends. ... on another note, though, they aren't that good in Geography:

"I'm from Pakistan~"
"!! Oh, the Middle East?!"
"...South Asia."

I'm pretty sure they had to dig around for ages just to get all these wrong answers anyway. Like Mr. Roberts said above, for every wrong answer, there must've been a dozen right ones. You can't always trust what the media says.

Fact remains, a lot of Americans are lovely people! Some of my best friends are Americans. But there can be complete racists there as well, as is the case here in Dubai. You can't really escape it.

However, it would be quite nice if people opened an Encyclopedia or Atlas once in a while.

Besides being shocking and hilarious, it's quite eye-opening as well.

I do agree that you get people like this everywhere, it isn't just America. But since our whole lives are basically revolving around the USA today, the media tends to concentrate on The States.

But this just goes to show how vital it is that people not only receive education, but educate themselves as well. This one woman who answered the phony "Howard" that she did in fact see him on TV as the Australian prime minister when he asked her, probably said so because she didn't want to sound ignorant or unaware, but look how that backfired.

Shweta's right: They don't know because they're not interested, but ignorance is far more dangerous than we think. Towards the end of the segment, a man was asked if he supports the president's decision to invade Kyrgyzstan, and he replied: If he says so, then I believe him. This herd mentality where we just follow one person without bothering doing our own research and forming our own opinions can have grave consequences. We've already seen this fatal mentality take the lives of millions. It's about time people started realizing the importance of education and knowledge.

Two things.

1) It's fake.
2) I really hate it when they refer to racism.

I found it fake, because I saw one of the people before, in another video I watched, with a completely different background, yet exactly the same answer, so I conclude that its fake, for a reason I can only discuss in person.

Now, to go on the real stuff. America's education is rigged for a reason. There is a power, above every president, always dominant and offensive, and, due to this power, the American system is being rigged, so as to make them blind to the world around them, so they can't think that something is wrong with Bush, that something is wrong with the world.

America is being brainwashed.

American's are not stupid, they never were. They have been brainwashed by this dominant power, into believing things they would have thought was wrong, but, due to their environment, they are oblivious to their surroundings, their real surroundings. The video was a fake, American's are not stupid, just that they have been sent into a different path that we can see clearly, but to them, its blurred.

Even though I felt like slapping some of the people in the video, I know its not their fault, but rather, its the government's fault. They have got education, and, actually, its nothing to do with their education, but, its to do with their mind power, and how they have been manipulated to believe things that are unreal and completely untrue. I agree with you Mr.Roberts, so I would like to elaborate on that point further.

Of course it has been edited, and of course they must have had a dozen attempts to finally find someone who is devoid of sense, just like in every other country. But, do you know the real reason behind it? Why we are given reasons to hate them, and reasons for them to hate us (muslims)? Because of this governing, dominant power. Do your research online, and you should know one name, one name that dates back 6000 years ago.

The Masons.

They rule this world now. They control what we learn, what we know, and what to hate, what to like, what to be produced. A massive wide-scale corruption, that has lasted successfully for over 1500 years. Every phase of their plan is relying on America and Israel. I won't go into detail, but you should all be familiar with what we are dealing with here. We are dealing with a dominant power, wealthy and intelligent. They have set the minds of Americans in this way. They have set out minds into hating them. They have set out the plan to attack/invade several Arab countries, the best of them all.

And it is they who have bribed our Egyptian president, and Saudi Arabian president. And do you know for what?

They have asked for permission to enter and invade a country in the middle east, but, in order to do this, they cannot afford to have a war with Egypt (40 year war with Israel), and Saudi Arabia (every muslim within it will go on a rampage), so they bribe them. They bribed them by saying: "We will make sure your entire bloodline gets presidency over your country forever, and money to aid you, and, in return, you stay out of the havoc we made in the middle east". THAT IS THE REAL REASON. The Masons control this, they control everything now. It is not the American's fault.

It is the Masons.

neineisharie said...

Mo, I adore you for bringing Masons into this. All I'm going to say.

This was funny!

how many eiffel towers does italy have?
about 10?!

ahahahah

Im not saying americans are stupid people, but i didnt really understand the point that CNN is trying to make?

Really confused!

Are they trying to say that america is short of intelligent people?

Mr. Roberts said...

Fay, it isn't CNN (which is American). It's CNNN - a satirical news channel from Australia.

This is several years old - I suppose an attempt to prove that people who supported the Bush regime weren't too bright :)

Unknown said...

Well, I do agree with Moe, again.

I DO NOT believe in stereotyping and mainly restricting stupidity to Americans.

I have very briefly experienced the American education, and having my own experiences in Brtish and yes, the dreaded Indian Education system (FOR 10 years), I can safely say that the curriculum is "frighteningly" easy in comparison. So I do think it's rigged.

I agree with you on the editing part Mr. Roberts, but I also think that they are manipulated to saying this in front of large scale audiences.

Now, as Moe said, suppose you were to increase the sampling frame and focus on prety much, every single induvdual in the world, and manipulate them (which I have noticed, is MUCH EASIER than it sounds), this fabled "AMERIAN DREAM" may actually come to life! That of a New WORLD Order

Mr. Roberts said...

So Daniel, are you saying these people are not really ignorant, but only pretending to be ignorant? They'd have to be pretty good actors :)

Yusra Shah said...

That was sooo funny……some people need to improve their general knowledge.

Unknown said...

Well, maybe or maybe not. Maybe a fistful of dollars might have done that, but I am actually talking about the influence the media has on people. How the media can be the biggest weapon to promote ignorance.

Unknown said...

Hahahahaha I've seen this video! My dad showed it to me, it's hilarious!
It's true that no-one can argue whether they have no general knowledge or they're just plain stupid, reason being it could easily be set-up. I also completely agree with Mr. Roberts when he says that for every wrong answer, there are many more correct ones.
Generally, knowing how the media is, they only choose segments of what they record to either get their message across or to entertain.

As demanding as it sounds, education is everything. This is just one big reality check, a microcosm representing not only MEDC's (more economically developed countries) but various LEDC's (less economically developed countries) as well. If MEDC's cannot support a sufficient education system, how can they expect LEDC's to do the same?

It was a funny video but looking at it at a closer perspective, you have to realise how important education is, its not something that should be taken for granted.

Unknown said...

& I thought I needed help with Geography and world knowledge. This video makes me sound quite clever! =P
Seriously though, I think that at this age we don't really worry too much about education, well I know I don't. I take it for granted, but looking at the answers from this video, not anymore.
It does suck, though, how America ended up with the whole "Stupid sterotype"...
From all these strange answers, I bet there were about 10 right ones. We will only ever be shown what we are wanted to be seen.

I agree with Daniel about the media. I don't think these people were pretending. I'm also not saying the only sources of media in certain countries (especially in the States), are censored to broadcast and promote only one point of view. However, the more popular TV, radio channels, newspapers and such are the ones that all promote more or less the same perspective. Hence, the overall ignorance that you get amongst sectors of society in every nation, city, town and neighborhood. Funny, isn't it, how we promote freedom of speech in the name of "building one's own opinion" and then use this same "freedom" to influence people's opinions and implement the herd mentality. Quite sad.

I think the people are not aware of what's happening around the world. General knowledge. Some of them don't even know a country starting with U! come on they live in one! are they acting or are they really that stupid?
It shows that there are some people who really don't care to learn more about current affairs around the world.
It was hilarious to see people believing that that guy was the Australian Prime Minister and taking pictures with him, don't they ever watch the news?

asima...=D said...

hahhahha im rolling on the floor that was hilarious!!! man i cant get over it. in which country was the Berlin war??? hehhe answer"......" hehhehehe too good!! ok but now jokes apart it is sad!!! people are really ignorant, i agree there is a lot of editing and not all people in America are stupid as a matter of fact im sure its only a minority that are genuinely dum!!!! but I really feel its soo sad how we have become so ignorant of the world around us we just feel that we know it all with the that idiot box infornt of us, along with our internet and is going to school just enough?? honestly we need to catch a wake up call and look, observe and learn form the what is happening around us!!

Unknown said...

"How many sides does a triangle have?"
And the answer was wrong- just priceless. But on a more serious side, it must have taken quite a lot editing to get those kind of answers. It's rather pathetic that people keep creating stereotypes and hope that we evolve as species.

Unknown said...

This is hilarious as well as shocking and it is true that ignorant people like them exist in every country. Not everyone is stupid in America so yes i agree editing is done for these segments to make them look funny.
The answers are really funny but it's hard to understand how can people be so unaware of the world around them. Lack of interest is one reason and many people are not concertating on the question when being asked.

Ukraine you dummys !!

A country begining with U is Ukraine !

..

Austraila has a prime minister ??

Leah Simon said...

Wow! These people really need to brush up on their general knowledge. I still can't beleive that lady said that Queen Elizabeth money is used in England!

Mehvash:] said...

This really was hilarious, my mum came into my room, asking me what I found so funny in my English 'hw' :P

But yes, I have to agree, that obviously the Australian media chose to cut out the right answers and only show the wrong ones, to portray the Americans in a more 'comical' light.

It's appalling though, how narrow minded some people in the world are. What cracked me up was 'Name a country with 'U'' 'uhh..' 'how about this country- United States..?' 'OH YEAH :O' Hahaha =P
My sister's boyfriend [who is an American] annoyed me with his questions one day. Apparently, he had never even known that Dubai existed. After realizing it was in the Middle-East, he badgered me with irrelevant questions, like 'So do you have MUSIC on the radio? :O' After he visited Dubai the next year, he was baffled by how advance we were, and I was quite proud to show him that the rest of the world happens to be around the same level as America, not behind :)

priyanka.nathaline.lopez said...

It looks like a lot has been said here. I'm not entirely sure wether this video, as you have mentioned previously, has been edited to only show all the wrong answers that were given. But still, just to think that even SOME people HAVE given these answers is absolutely hilarious. I mean, seriously! Ten Eiffel Towers? Queen Elizabeth money? Star Wars is real? One Kidney? Tony Blair is an actor? Three World Wars? A mosque is an Animal? Prime Minister John Howard is my mate? Okay I might have gone a little overboard with the rhetorical questions but just look at them!
I also agree that there are a lot of Americans who are very intelligent and smart. But it looks like CNN knew where to look for people who neglected knowing General Knowledge about the rest of the World.

Unknown said...

it made me laugh so hard that i fell of my chair and i feel i have a broken arm , thank you sir (: that really made my day.
Erm but seriously i feel education is not really as important as it used to be, everyone these days are street smart.Yes they do study but just for the sake of getting the degree its not like olden days where education was what people craved for.

Unknown said...

wow! So, where does this dumb thing come from? I think what is happening here is a classical case of intercultural misunderstanding.
There are still many intelligent and well educated people in the US. The 'others' get sucked into a culture focused on materialism, fads, gossip, celebrities and social status.
They probably asked hundreds of people, but for entertainment, only show the really stupid ones.

EliqaShaza said...

This was actually VERY entertaining. I would agree with Payam's question, why is the Americans knowledge on general education so low? Mr. Roberts is right though, they have done a lot of editing and this is only a minority of people. I'm sure that there are a lot of people who are very intelligent in America. But overall, this was funny to watch.
