Planet and Star Scales

I posted this last year, but I thought I'd post it again as it's a nice companion video to Carl Sagan's "Pale Blue Dot." You can't begin to imagine how big some some stars in our universe can be until you've watched this! On the scale of stars, our planet fades into nothingness. (2 min.)

I had seen something like this, but with lesser stars in an e-mail that I received.Imagining of something so big is scary. But if the Sun is that small, why do people say that the Sun is the biggest star? And one more thing, how much has technology advanced that it can get the volumes and diameters of stars that Humans have'nt even reached to yet?

Sonal,
The Sun is not the biggest star, but the closest star. As for measurements of stars, we have fabulously sophisticated instruments - the Hubble Telescope is just one. Measuring the stars gravitational influence on other objects is another way. Spectroscopic analysis is yet another.

Oh, Dint know that.Thanx for the information.

This was really cool. But are the stars like Sirius and Pollux in the milky way? Or are they in some other galaxy?

Sonal,
Every star you can see with the naked eye is in our own galaxy, The Milky Way. I'm not sure about every one of those stars you see in the video, but Rigel, Betelgeuse, and Sirius are in our galaxy and are visible without telescopes.

Oh, wow just imagine the size our galaxy must be. Thanks Mr.Roberts

That scared me, especially with that ear-piercing weird music, and massive numbers.

That video is actually amazing, but not 100% reliable. Nevertheless, I am as bewildered as Sonal.Vohra, about his point in saying the technology we create, beats our own experiences by far. I would be extremely scared, if they pushed even further, I mean, what would be at the end? 999,999,999,999,999,999 suns make the last star? Then what lays behind that?

I recieved the same email Sonal did and it still amazes me.
I wonder what's beyond everything we've managed to discover so far.

Absolutely incredible. Space never ceases to astonish and SCARE for that matter!! :) I mean to just imagine how big the last one is.... im honestly speechless!! The music was really freaky, accompanied with those digitful numbers (they may as well have been PHONE NUMBERS!!)

I remember seeing a power point presentation on something similar like the "pale blue dot", it was about how we can keep going further into space and how vast our universe is. Our earth is compared to W Cephei is just phenominal. Just imagine earth which seems huge to us to the scale of 7,000,000.

Superb video! Its just amazing when you see that there are things far more greater than Earth, or rather in this case, far far greater than the sun.And I totally agree with Mo Nour. What exactly IS the end of space?

TO be honest the music really creaped me out! But the video was simply unbelievable! now i am sure that we are not the only unique habitants of this universe. it shows how insignificant we really are.

This short clip has allowed my goosebumps to rise. Just the simple fact that there is a universe out there and that earth plays such a small role is simply terrifying :)
What if there are other beings out there?
woaaahhh!
freaky moment just passed :)

This is an awesome video which shows where we are located in such a gigantic and unknown universe. There are an infinite number of things to be discovered in a universe so massive that it would take forever to find out considering the fact that we may not even be an electron of the huge W Cephei star. I wonder if we live on a speck of dust in the universe and there is a giant elephant in the sky. (Just like in the animated movie ‘Horton Hears A Who’)
