English Blogsite Feedback

Winchester students,
It's been a month since we started using the blogsite this year. Could I please ask for your feedback on: What you like/don't like about the site and any ideas on what you'd like to see introduced.

I love the fact that this isnt exactly a curriculum based website and we cover totally random topics every week. It also provides us with useful info of competitions, events etc.

I wouldnt change anything! But, a little more on detal towards music as given to movies and books would be awesome.

Still, kudos for the site.

The site is a brilliant idea of giving homework since nowadays, most teenagers live on the internet. I like how it isn't the type of homework you would hate to look at it and get over with.

I wouldn't change anything either, maybe add a couple of extra features here and there.

I think the sites pretty awesome, we have interesting stuff put up every week. I agree with daniel, maybe something more about music?
That would be great, thanks.
:D

Website is fine, maybe an error check for spelling mistakes, at the end of each comment.

Other than that, I agree with the above comments, the website is truly amazing.

I like how the site covers more interesting topics than just some boring thing that drags on and on making us sleepy! I also like the fact that you do not expect a novel in every comment, it is less stressful.

Like tanya and Daniel said, i think music would be a great idea!

I really find it interesting. As long as the posts stay as origianl as the ones we've been commenting on this last month, I'll be checking it regularly.

All the different topics that are brought up really open up our minds to the world around us.
The thunks, and Moral Dilemmas especially, are a great idea :)
Sir, is it possible to post up the reading book-list for the entire year? [Year 10] Not the PDF files, only the names.
Just incase I come across any of the books in a bookshop, I'd like to buy and keep them and read them in time, instead of going on a scavenger hunt to 20 different book shops at the beginning of each month :P

And like everyone's mentioned, a little more on music? That would be nice :]

Frankly, i enjoy the site very much..especially the thunks!!
it gives me something to think about...things i wouldn't have thought of :)
it would be lovely to have a bit of entertainment such as movie reviews, music etc. other than that i just adore the site :-)

The site offers a lot on diverse topics, covering everything from rainbows to libraries to politics. :) It isn't boring and single-minded.

Hmm, i dont really hate anything about it, tho as Daniel and Tannya said, I would like something on Music as well. Music's awesome timeline, (from the Beatles to the Sex Pistols to Motley Crue to Eminem), how they influenced pop culture, and the like are really quite interesting (well, for those who are really passionate about the music they listen to anyway)..

Punk films such as Sid and Nancy, The great rock and roll swindle.. 20's 'flapper' films that starred Clara Bow.. Movies that contain timeless actors such as Joanne Crawford, Marilyn Monroe, John Wayne, James Dean, Elizabeth Taylor and Aubrey Hepburn...

and i could go on and on.

:D

In comparison to slaving away at a desk with a pen and hundreds of peices of paper, I think its brilliant!
I mean honestly, in our modern world when will you ever sit down and write an essay on paper in your adult life. isn't that what school is about? Preparing you for the future? Well very simply the future isn't all about writing essays with pen and paper.
I dont think theres much to improve on here, some more video's would be nice though. The ones on Creativity and Education at that forum were great.

Not getting homework to do on paper is so awesome. I really enjoy the TED talks and thunks. Its great to do homework in a more technologically advanced manner. The blog is brilliant.

My friends back in Sri Lanka are so jealous when I tell them that I get English homework online, because they have to write hundreds of papers. :P

I do enjoy the variety of posts, but a few are put up in a short span of time.
For example, I came on the blogspot day before yesterday and noticed there were no new posts after the Benjamin summary, and it had been quite a few days.
Today, I noticed 6 new posts! I can understand 2-3 new posts, but 6!
Anyway, everything else is great and really opens your eyes to so many topics.

Unknown said...

And I agree, a little more on music and movies please :)

Unknown said...

yup more on music and movies would be great, other than that, i do enjoy some of the posts - if it werent for the blogsite i probably wouldnt have known about them at all.

I find the blogsite truly remarkable because it is such a modern way to do our essays and homework! :) I also am extremely fond of the topics; the thunks, articles and best of all the TED documentaries because they really open your eyes and your mind to a whole new window of interesting info.!! Wouldn't change anything! :)

I like the idea of blogging and I find it interesting to read other's comments on things that are new to me.
I agree with Myra though, updating few at a time will make me do more of the tasks.
Overall, the website is really good. :)

It is a welcome change from the ordinary, boring style of giving homework! And it is so lovely to see that you actually want to get to know us as people to be able to evaluate us, our performance and our capacity as students. There's so much of interesting information to soak up here! And it's fun to do, I actually WANT to spend my time on this site. It's not an obligation, it's a pleasure! Congratulations for all the hard work that's paid off! =)

The blog site is brilliant! It really is a pleasant change from our usual written homework. The videos, thunks and articles have really been interesting and so have the summary writings. And as students, we feel nice that you take the time to read all of the comments. Keep up the good work:D

hey Sir. okk let me be honest at first i was not very keen on the idea of a blogspot but as time has passed i found it very interseting in regard to all the views form other students and well its amazing how we all interact. i love the thunks as it forces me to think, i love the videos u have posted if it wasn't for this site I wouldn't have known much of these intersetng facts. totally music and movies would be fun. i also think that there are too many posts at once. other than that most of the things are fun, maybe some more word games would be exciting?

I love the site Mr.Roberts. I always try and make an effort to come on and comment, not because i have to but its interesting to see all the new topics on here.. Its also nice to read other people's comments. I strongly feel that the site is making English much more interesting rather than the plain old paperwork.

Now that I have actually started to use the blogsite, I have come across quite a few interesting topics!

I find it gives me practise in spelling, how to word a sentence etc. :)

Unknown said...

I love the site! I've learned a lot from the various topics. Its awesome that we get to do homework like this which no other class has. However, sometimes there are too many posts. But other than that I wouldn't change a thing.

When I was first told about the blogspot, I was really un-interested. I thought it would all be about books & reading. Now, I check this thing once every few days, and comment on nearly everything =P
But I agree, more music & a spell check as my spelling sucks =)

Mehvash:] said...

Oh one more thing Sir;
I really love the pictures/photographs that you choose for each article :)

Thanks Mehvash : )

I think the timers at the end of every posts aren't accurate. Just that. This post should be posted exactly at 12 Noon according to UAE time lets see what the timer says.

Overall the blog site is great!! But I think the background color of the page should change to something more positive and also there should be a font color option for the blog site to look colorful. There should be a spell check for the comments made and the problem with the time displayed when the comment is posted has to be fixed. I like the pictures, videos and the thunks posted. The concept of the blog site being our homework is very beneficial as well as fun for us as it doesn’t give the feel of homework.

A person is made up and shaped by all the experiences and memories they undergo throughout their lifetime. For example, the way I behave around others is determined by the social construct that surrounded me growing up, and the way I react to certain situations is determined by my past experiences regarding similar occurrence. The biggest and most prevalent part of a person’s personality is their memory. It determines who they are and how they think, and it is stored in the brain.

Therefore, if science could find a way to transplant my brain into the body of someone named John, I would simply be myself, in the body of a John. The memories and experiences I had growing up would remain with me, hence, keeping the same personality and feelings I had in my old body. Also, on a biological level, the female brain is wired differently than that of the male. For example, males process less oxytocin than females, which is the chemical that creates bonding-relationships, and females process more serotonin which is the reason for their ability to sit still and concentrate on a higher level than males.

In conclusion, I would say that although physically I would be John, and learn to acquire and coexist with his physical attributes, mentally I would still possess all the memories, which make up my personality; therefore I would still be me.

Can you touch the arch of colors, which forms in the sky when sunlight is refracted by water in the atmosphere? You can certainly aspire to, but probably not.

Although a rainbow cannot be touched in the scientific, literal sense, there are many other “rainbows” which one can touch. A more scientific approach to this analysis would be the description of how a synthetic rainbow can be touched. For example, putting a mirror in a half filled tray of water and shining a flashlight at the mirror, then touching the resulting rays of color. Another approach to this question, one which is less literal, would be saying, to touch a rainbow you can simply draw one on a sheet of paper and touch it.

Although the following methods both equally work in answering the question, “can you touch a rainbow?” my favorite approach is the most abstract and liberal. I would say touching a rainbow is something that comes from within. A rainbow is something unapproachable in reality, and is believed to hold “treasure” at the end. Therefore I would say that touching a rainbow is something you feel in your heart when you achieve a long-term goal or dream.
