Ligers and Tions

Remember all that brouhaha about Zebras and their stripes? Well, ever wondered what would happen if you crossed a lion and a tiger? You get Ligers and Tions. Think I'm kidding? I'm not.

It is not surprising, since the two species are in the same cat family. I have seen something like this before, so i dont find it that strange. But, could this also have been Genetic Mutation? Not naturally, but artificially?

Thats whats on my mind.

This is something different.I know breeding can be contolled by Humans, but never thought of this.I think this is the first time someone has tried this. You can look at it in different ways. Its sad, and dangerous at the same time.Sad because We play with Nature and make it go the way We want it to, and dangerous because no one knows the consequnces of having an animal like this on Earth or what damage it could do to the surroundings while they are being taken care of.Humans may not know which part of the world suits the ligers/tions the best and many other things. But again its something new, like an experiment to find out all these answers, so you cant say its wrong.

I am completely envious of the lucky people that get to cuddle those adorable animals.

Still, science has owned us all once again. Not that I approve of such cross-breeding; Madame Nature clearly wanted things to go the way she had designed. She's probably none too happy about us messing with her plans. Someone should remember the tell the scientists that, though. Not that they'll listen. I have the utmost respect for science, but sometimes they cross boundaries that should not be crossed - that's what boundaries are for.

However, that Liger is adorable <33

Wow... I won't say I didn't think that was possible, but truth is that definitely must not have been easy. Well my only thought is that nature never really intended a lion and a tiger to breed, which means that Ligers can only be created artificially or by force. And then I thought, well isn't that true of all hybrids? So I started wondering if there are any dangers/side effects of cross-breeding, because after all, when something that isn't natural takes place there are always some dangers. Well negativity apart, it was a fascinating video and Ligers are simply beautiful!

It is actually sad to see this kind of thing happening in our world What we are doing is crossing the lines of nature. Animals were created the way they were, we were not supposed to change that. I believe that the consequences of such acts could be disastrous.

Wow.
I wonder what would happen if you crossed a leopard and a tiger! That would be one funky cat! :)

This form of hybridization really shows the extent of human intelligence. Not that I approve of such cross breeding, as it is genetically incorrect. What I would really like to see is the Humanzee hybrids;).

WOW! Awesome! Do these "Ligers and Tions" represent unorthodox romances between, well, a lion and a tiger?

However, it is quite normal since both species belong to the same cat family (as Moe said), and the possibility of having a hybrid leopard and tiger (as Myra stated) does not seem impossible (Teopards??).

I wonder what we would get if we breed a Cow and a Dog though XD, maybe a Cog??

This is quite an interesting clip, yet it is not that strange. This is the same thing when two people of two different colours mate and produce a completely different coloured offspring which has inherited a bit of both of its parents' genes. The liger on the clip was ENORMOUS!! The people taking care of it must be either really brave or really brain-damaged as this liger seems like he could eat ALL of them in one sitting. Though he was quite cute. :) so i dont blame them for wanting to take care of such an exotic and rare breed of species!!

Truth is stranger than fiction...and in our say to day lives we very seldom encounter this phenomena!!!
A liger is one of the very many examples of expriments that humans venture into...to find out if they play out successfully!!
It is not so strange after all, as humans have been indulging in it for some time now, so why not our friends- the lions and tigers..
This is done artificially, so it also shows that the animals did not have the inclination for it..but it was the humans who wanted to play with nature...
I think we should leave nature to its own, and worry about the human mutations and such ,that is causing havoc on our society and envirourment ...

In the video, they stated that if the two meet in the wild, they would probably get into a fight. If that is the case, then why didn't they get into a fight whilst mating in captivity? I know that these cats are not exactly wild but if you went to a zoo for example, and you walked into a lion's cage, I doubt it would spare you!

I wonder whether they cut their claws very short and put a muzzle on their mouth or even worse, drug them in order for the two species of cats not to fight.

THE ADULT LIGER IS HUGE!!

This is extra-ordinary and unique.. it just shows how humans can think 'out of the box'.. this hybridization might be genetically incorrect but it shows how humans love playing with nature.. mother nature might be annoyed but she sure will be proud of us all :p !!

Great video! I would love to take care of this massive but very adorable new cross breed called ligers! Although I knew cross breeding between animals was going to come up sooner or later. My thoughts about cross breeding are that it is intriguing what the result might come out as (for example-the tigers love the water while lions hate it and the hybrid loves to swim ) and it also reveals information about the two breeds and their genetic connections.

But on the other had this cross breeding might turn out to be dangerous for the new breed and due to the instability of the genetics arrangement the new species may not live for a very long time. Cross breeding two different types of animals which in the wild, fight each other when confronted are now forced by us to breed and by this we are disrupting the natural cycle of nature.
