What if mankind had to leave Earth, and somebody forgot to turn the last robot off? After hundreds of lonely years of doing what he was built for, WALL*E (short for Waste Allocation Load Lifter Earth-Class) discovers a new purpose in life (besides collecting knick-knacks) when he meets a sleek search robot named EVE. EVE comes to realize that WALL*E has inadvertently stumbled upon the key to the planet's future, and races back to space to report her findings to the humans (who have been eagerly awaiting word that it is safe to return home). Meanwhile, WALL*E chases EVE across the galaxy and sets an adventure into motion. Joining WALL*E on his journey across the universe is a cast of characters including a pet cockroach and a heroic team of malfunctioning misfit robots.
Things to think about:
How do the creators of WALL-E give the robots human emotions? (What do we learn about being human from watching the robots?)
What do you find endearing about WALL-E and EVE?
What is the film’s message about consumerism?
What vision of future human society does the film depict?
Comment on the animation during the end credits.

Sir! you told us it was a secret!
In wall-e the robots are given human like features, this gives us the ability to empathise with wall-e and his feelings towards eve.
Also, the director is able to produce these emotional responses without the need of a script. the movie has minimum words but allows us to explore our emotions fully, this is achieved through the actions of wall-e and his effort to follow eve into space.
Moreover, the generalisation of humans being fat and greedy, portrays the directions in which humanity is heading. nowadays people (especially U.S) live off fast food and this has been proven that obesity levels have risen. also, technology is aiding man-kind in everything we do and independence of us individuals is deteriorating, this is also conveyed through the humans being fully absorbed in their personal t.v's and not being aware of there surroundings.
Finally, the world in which the humans are inhabiting is full of adverising and is very much a commercial consumerised world. even the children are learning their alphabet using examples of companies!!!
As the last WALL-E is alone, he developes a sentient character. He becomes almost human like. Or atleast trying to be human. Evidence to this is given when we see WALL-E watching the video Hello Dolly.
He explores and interperts human emotions such as love in the video. It is like the video is almost a guide to human emotions.
What I find captivating about the two robots is that, they are build from metal and made up of wires. However, this has not stopped them from interacting with eachother in a human like manner. WALL-E tried his best at first and failed, but later they experianced what WALL-E longed for. A kiss.
The main message that I have derived from the movie is that, all the fancy adverts with all their models and women, aim for one thing. Profits! Making humans think about nothing but getting the latest colour suit(Blue) and telling them all about how luxurious everything has to be. All this aims to deliver the companies the highest amounts of profit possible.
Too many advertisements aren't good. They can be misleading.
Laziness. Obesity.
The animation used during the credits period show how humans have gradually develop back into present day life. They are simple drawings and are interesting.

In the movie WALL-E the creators gave these robots the human emotion of love. What was so unique about this movie was that although the creators did not use a lot of speech in the movie they were able to portray the actions and feelings of humans in WALL-E and Eve. The robots showed that they would do whatever it takes to stay together against all odds against all difficulties and that is wat is inspiring in human beings as well.
When it comes to consumerism, in the movie it shows that humans have developed a habit of needing to buy what they dont need and over doing it as well.
Future human societies will become reliant on products and technology to the point that they will become like robots themselves and almost become numb to emotion, reason and humanity.

The creators of Wall-e have put emotions into the characters through feelings such as love. Wall-e longs for a companion because it is the only thing left on Earth along with its cockroach. In this movie humans are totally dependant on computers- everything from their food to clothes are controlled. Emotions have been lost in the midst of time ex: just a simple touch between the opposite sexes bought them back to reality. This helps us connect to the story since this is what humanity is heading for! Technology has made life easier but our lifestyles have become more dependant and this has made us very lazy. At the end of the movie we realize that if we continue life in the way we are now then the cycle of life will have to start all over again.

Wall-e made me think of the famous R2D2 from Star Wars. However, Wall-e and Eve both have much more human emotions. It's fascinating and very upsetting that you realise in the beginning of the film that Wall-e was left on Earth, doing the same routine thing every day all by himself, for the past 700 years.
Because there is so little dialogue the actions tell us many things. Wall-e constantly collects human objects such as lighters, spoons and Christmas lights. This shows how much he longs to feel human. This is again portrayed to us by the part where Wall-e watches the part of an old movie and yearns to hold hands with someone.
When Eve arrives to the earth she is very different. She, just like Wall-e, was made for a purpose. She had to find a plant on Earth but was also crammed with weapons. However, just like Wall-e, she is not a plain robot and also has human emotions. Her and Wall-e bond and show each other their own worlds.
When Even finds the plant, a ship comes back to Earth to get her, and Wall-e manages to get away to help her.
Once he gets onto the ship, we truly understand what happened. Centuries ago the humans left Earth to live in space while WALL-E (Waste Allocation Load Lifter Earth-class) robots are left all over the earth to clean it up. The robots eventually broke down, the waters dried up and all the vegetation vanished. Wall-e was the only robot left. This is when EVE robots were created (Extra-terrestrial Vegetation Evaluator) to find plants in order to return back to Earth and start living normal life again. We also see that thanks to technology, all the humans have gone lazy, their bones have become smaller and they are covered with layers of flesh. They are absolutely unaware of anything around them.
After various events happening on the ship, the human captain wins over the robot autopilot, all the people's screens switch off and they start taking in their surroundings. They return back to Earth and start moving towards civilisation again.
The end credits are presented through ancient-like drawings which show how the human race has developed towards civilization ones more.
One thing which fascinated me in the movie was Wall-e's "pet" - a cockroach. This did three things- it showed that little things matter too; that even the things we hate can be very significant; and finally- that cockroaches will survive everything! :)
